TREAD LIGHTLY! RELEASES NEW PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

OGDEN, UTAH (June 1, 2007) –The nonprofit organization Tread Lightly!® has announced the release of a new strategically-designed print public awareness campaign called Ride Hard, Tread Lightly.

The campaign, which focuses on motorized outdoor recreation, was conceived after surveys reported that one of the top reasons people stray from the trail is because they think their ride will be “more challenging and more fun.”

Ride Hard, Tread Lightly concentrates on changing the perception that environmentally-sensitive riding isn’t fun. “Being responsible doesn’t mean being boring,” the public service announcements state. “Just use common sense and simple outdoor ethics to keep your riding areas beautiful, healthy and open.”

The PSAs also encourage specific behavior, such as staying on the trail, using a map on every ride and washing vehicles to avoid spreading invasive species.

Responsible water use is also addressed—with a message reminding boaters and personal watercraft users to slow down in shallow water to avoid damaging fragile shorelines.

The campaign was designed in ten sizes for outdoor enthusiast magazines as a way for publications to become directly involved in preventing the great outdoors from damage and closure. The PSAs can also be utilized by land managers in brochures and maps or as posters for trailhead kiosks.

Ride Hard, Tread Lightly complements Tread Lightly!’s other responsible recreation campaigns—Play Nice and Open to the Public.
