HUMMER Raises Thousands for Tread Lightly! at Outdoor Retailer Show

Ogden, UTAH (August 16, 2006) — Through test drives and raffle prizes, HUMMER raised almost $13,000 for Tread Lightly!® restoration and education initiatives at the recent Outdoor Retailer Expo in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Part of the money donated will go to Tread Lightly!’s Restoration for Recreation™ program, which will fund a special rehabilitation project at the Bald Mountain off-highway vehicle (OHV) trail in the Sierra National Forest. HUMMER set up a test drive area at Willard Bay, donating $20 to the project for every drive taken in the new, midsize H3.

"The funding from HUMMER will go a long way to restoring the Bald Mountain trail to its original condition, reducing off-trail impacts, and providing a unique opportunity for the visitors of this forest," said Greg Marks, OHV manager for the High Sierra Ranger District.

A portion of the money was also raised at a raffle at the Outdoor Retailer Expo’s Opening Night Reception. Outside Magazine and HUMMER raffled off several outdoor-related prizes generously donated by a number of supportive retailers. The night had an `80s theme, complete with a retro skating rink, `80s survival kits and a concert by the Flock of Seagulls.

Throughout the week Tread Lightly! distributed materials containing simple ways Outdoor Retailer Expo attendees can reduce impact when they drive, bike and hike in the outdoors.

HUMMER, a division of General Motors, has been a member of Tread Lightly! for seven years. Outside Magazine is a major sponsor of the Outdoor Retailer Expo and is dedicated to covering the people, sports and activities, politics, art, literature, and hardware of the outdoors.
