BFG Outstanding Trails

Presented by Tread Lightly!BFGOODRICH® Tires Outstanding Trails Program

Tread Lightly! recognizes that one of the best ways to promote responsible outdoor recreation is to support enthusiasts in the stewardship of their favorite trails.

With the help of licensing agreements from one of Tread Lightly!’s top partners, the BFGoodrich® Tires Outstanding Trails grants are designed to help individuals and groups organize clean-ups, trail maintenance work days and other small stewardship projects. The average grant is under $500. Those funds can be used for everything from feeding volunteers to purchasing equipment, trash bags, and tools.

About the Grant Program

Tread Lightly!’s BFGoodrich® Tires Outstanding Trails grants support enthusiasts in caring for their favorite trails by funding cleanups, maintenance days, and small stewardship projects.

Clubs, select individuals, and motorized recreation organizations that are active members of Tread Lightly! are eligible to apply. If you aren’t a Tread Lightly! member, find the details and join here.

The average grant given is under $500.00.

All grant recipients awarded amounts above $600 will be issued a 1099 for tax purposes, and may affect tax filing.

Grant applications and supporting material can be submitted starting 5/1/2025 and will be accepted through 11/30/2025 for review and evaluation.  Approved projects within this time period are contingent on remaining available funds at the time of submission.

Stewardship can take on many forms. With that in mind, we have a fairly broad scope as to what are acceptable expenses. Listed here are items that we can cover as part of the award grant. If you have a unique cost, or something that is not listed below, please contact us directly by emailing Lowell@treadlightly.org.

  • Trash bags and/or dumpster rental
  • Water or other non-alcoholic beverages for volunteers
  • Food for volunteers
  • Fuel used at project location
  • Signage materials
  • Trail building and restoration materials
  • Equipment rental

TREAD LIGHTLY! WILL NOT REIMBURSE: Alcoholic beverages, Travel expenses, Labor or associated costs, Event insurance, Membership or fees for other organizations.

As proud partners and supporter of  Tread Lightly!, BFGoodrich Tires asks that everyone be responsible when driving off road and following the Tread Lighty! T.R.E.A.D. Principles. Click here to learn more about BFGoodrich® Tires, including the BFGoodrich Terrain Family of tires.
