Project: Kane Creek Safari Route Travel Management Project
Location: Utah

Description: On March 31, 2026, during the annual Easter Jeep Safari, a total of 64 dedicated volunteers joined two Tread Lightly! team members and two staff from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Moab Field Office for a day of stewardship along the Kane Creek corridor.

The group convened at the Moab Skyview Day Use Area Parking Area before traveling down Kane Creek Canyon to the Safari Route staging area. After a comprehensive safety briefing led by BLM staff, volunteers were divided into two teams to carry out the day’s objectives.

Participants worked collaboratively to construct buck-and-rail fencing across four separate project sites. These strategic improvements are designed to deter illegal camping, protect sensitive habitats, and protect the integrity of the Kane Creek corridor for continued responsible recreation.

This project highlights the power of partnerships and volunteer engagement in safeguarding public lands and maintaining access for off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts. The combined efforts of all participants contributed to meaningful, lasting improvements along this popular recreation route.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the volunteers and partners whose support made this project a success.
