Tread Lightly! Impact Report: Pickin’ Up in the Pines

Project: Pickin’ Up in the Pines
Location: Arizona

Description: On September 28, 2024, Tread Lightly! supported the Pickin’ Up in the Pines cleanup. Together 80 volunteers worked to clean up Forest Roads 237 and 535 in the Coconino National Forest. Together volunteers removed over 7,000 pounds of trash, improving 10 miles of trail.

Along with cleanup efforts, volunteers also installed 300 feet of log worm fence to help mitigate off-trail use and installed fire prevention signage. This was a great collaborative effort of motorized and non-motorized recreation users to help improve these important forest roads.

Thank you to the partners who made this possible:

“Pickin up the Pines was a great event! I took my nephews so they could give back, see how other people care about the trails and also to learn how their actions impact the environment and the resources we rely on. We all had a great time and really enjoyed meeting everybody. Can’t wait to do another event.”-Jamie Dixon,  volunteer

“An event like “Pickin up in the Pines” is a great example of the positive impacts that can be achieved through working with partners and volunteers who have a shared interest in stewardship of public lands.” – Matt Sommers, Coconino National Forest , Volunteer Coordinator
