Tread Lightly! Impact Report: Coalmont OHV Park Responsible Riding Signage

Project: Coalmont OHV Park Responsible Riding Signage
Project #49/50
State: Tennessee

Description: This project was funded by the Quadratec 50 for 50 Initiative. Together with Tread Lightly!, Quadratec has committed to fund a project to improve off-road trails and public lands in each state over

On September 7, 2024, the Trail Team at Coalmont OHV Park in Tracy City, TN installed four Tread Lightly! educational signs at high traffic gathering spots within the park.

A relatively new OHV park, Coalmont hosts all forms of motorized recreation from motorcycles to ATV to UTV and full-size 4×4 vehicles. Riders from Tennessee and surrounding states come to enjoy the beauty of the park and its challenging system of trails.

The Trail Team realized that users who understand responsible behavior for public lands and trails help them keep the park clean and well maintained for reduced maintenance costs and wanted to educate all riders on how their impact affects the park. Riders who follow the T.R.E.A.D. principles understand how behavior can impact the trails and vegetation in a positive or a negative way.

Thank you to the following partners for their support:

“I’m excited to have some Tread Lightly! educational signs installed in the public gathering spots at Coalmont OHV Park. The park is attracting riders from around the Southeast who don’t have as many trails on public lands as the area needs. So, providing private parks which offer places for motorized recreation is important for the growing number of people enjoying motorized recreation today. Riders need to obey the same rules of responsible behavior on private land as what is required responsible behavior on public lands and trails. This keeps trails well maintained, clean and safe for riders of all types of vehicles. Thank you to our partner Quadratec for their 50 for 50 grant program which helped Tread Lightly! partner with Coalmont OHV Park and provide signs which will help all users know how to ride responsibly.”- Lowell Eckart, Southeast Program Manager, Tread Lightly!
