20 Dec Tread Lightly! Impact Report: Osceola National Forest Kiosk and Sign Installation: Skinny Dip and Swarthout OHV Trailheads
Project: Osceola National Forest Kiosk and Sign Installation: Skinny Dip and Swarthout OHV Trailheads
Project Location: Florida
Description: On June 13th, 14th and 15th, the United States Forest Service (USFS) team from Osceola National Forest installed perimeter fencing, two kiosks, and five educational and responsible riding signs at two OHV trailhead locations.
The Skinny Dip Pond location received a new kiosk, signs and an extensive row of wooden ballasts to keep riders away from sensitive vegetation and pond-life. The FR 241 Swarthout OHV Trailhead received a new kiosk, double-sided signage and perimeter fencing to protect haulers and trailers from driving on vegetation around the trailhead while unloading ATV and UTV vehicles.
The signs were produced by Tread Lightly! through funding provided by Florida Off-Road Foundation, a Florida non-profit providing funding to remediate and enhance trails and public lands throughout Florida. These OHV trailheads are significantly enhanced through the funding provided by Florida Off-Road Foundation.
Thank you to the following partners for their support:
“Osceola National Forest OHV trailhead locations have received incredible support through Tread Lightly! and their funding partners. In this case, funding provided by Florida Off-Road Foundation helped us install brand new kiosks and signage at two OHV Trailheads, FR 241 Swarthout and Skinny Dip Pond. We would not have been able to perform these OHV trail upgrades and additions without the help of Tread Lightly! and Florida Off-Road Foundation. With this support, we have been able to protect important areas of vegetation and pond-life as well as provide important trail maps and responsible riding behavior principles for our OHV trail users.”- Matthew Chopp, Recreation Program Manager, Osceola NF
“Thank you to our amazing partner, Florida Off-Road Foundation, for the funds required to make these important OHV trailhead locations rejuvenated and protected. With partnership with the Osceola NF team, we were able to provide some significant enhancements and protection to sensitive vegetation and wildlife in this national forest. Thank you all for helping us Protect the Adventure for future generations!”- Lowell Eckart, Southeast Program Manager, Tread Lightly!
