Signage Project and “Ride with a Ranger” Utah Snowmobile Event

STATUS: COMPLETED

EVENT DATE: February 27, 2016

Description from National Park Service:

This project will be planned and carried out primarily by the National Park Service with assistance from the Forest Service, Utah State Parks, Total Insanity Motorsports, Thunder Mtn. Sports, and volunteers.

The project has two major components. The first part of the project consists of designing, constructing, and installing three signs with information about the Cedar Mountain Snowmobile Complex. The signs will be placed at the Midway Junction snowmobile parking area and the north and south entrances to Cedar Breaks National Monument.

The second piece of the project is a “Ride with a Ranger” event. Land management professionals, power sport business owners, and volunteers will share the trails together on snowmobiles to educate other riders on Tread Lightly! and right riding principles. The event will start with a breakfast to incentivize and thank volunteers for engaging in the project and ride. The event will take place on February 27, 2016.

The signs will be designed by a student at Southern Utah University. The student will receive input, feedback, and guidance on the signs from the National Park Service and local snowmobile riders. The signs will contain information about the riding opportunities within the Cedar Mountain Snowmobile Complex, a map, and educate riders about special snowmobile regulations within Cedar Breaks National Monument. It is anticipated the design work will take one month to accomplish.

The intended outcome of this project is to educate snowmobile riders about the opportunities to ride responsibly in the Cedar Mountain Snowmobile Complex. The event will also give land managers, shop owners, and riders the opportunity to build meaningful long lasting relationships. This will assist land managers in continuing to provide exceptional outdoor motor sports activities and reducing user group conflict between motorized and non-motorized winter recreationists.
