31 Jan Cleanup Event in Oregon’s Applegate Valley
STATUS: COMPLETED
EVENT DATE: April 1, 2016
Description from Bureau of Land Management:
The Applegate Valley, located just 10 miles west of Medford Oregon is a popular recreation destination for a population center of over 100,000 people. Activities include OHV riding, hiking, fishing, camping, and hunting. Several existing OHV opportunities exist, as well as hiking and mountain bike trails, paragliding, dispersed camping, and hunting.
Unfortunately, due to it’s close proximity to a large population center, trash and dump sites often appear at public land recreational sites and parcels. The project would be to collaborate with local clubs and organizations to both organize cleanup at recreational sites, and to develop and implement an educational Tread Lightly campaign to better inform and educate the public on the preservation and restoration of their public lands.
The funding request would be to augment the overall project by providing for dumpster rental for cleanup, trash bags and PPE, and educational posters and mounting hardware to further the message of Tread Lightly.
