20 Apr Tread Lightly! announces funding award from the Overland Expo Foundation
NORTH SALT LAKE, UT. (Apr 20, 2022)— Tread Lightly!, a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to promoting responsible outdoor recreation through stewardship and educational programs, today announced a funding award from the Overland Expo Foundation to support stewardship projects in conjunction with 2022 Overland Expo events.
The funding granted by the Overland Expo Foundation will support Tread Lightly!’s mission to protect off-road trail access and public lands through stewardship projects and responsible recreation education. Tread Lightly! will complete a stewardship project in conjunction with the four Overland Expos to help improve motorized trails and public lands adjacent to each event.
“Thank you to the Overland Expo Foundation for supporting Tread Lightly! and taking steps to improve the public lands,” said Matt Caldwell, Tread Lightly! Executive Director. “This is a great way to give back to the vehicle-based travel community and we’re very excited to kick off our first project during Overland Expo West.”
The first project will take place in the Cinder Hills Off Highway Vehicle Area in the Coconino National Forest, near Flagstaff, Arizona. The project will consist of a trash cleanup on the forest and the creation of two new educational kiosks to promote responsible outdoor recreation and overlanding ahead of the Overland Expo West event, running May 20-22, 2022.
“We believe in leaving these areas better than we found them and supporting the overland community that has grown Overland Expo into the event it is today,” said Alison DeLapp, Executive Director of the Overland Expo Foundation. “We’re proud to award this grant to Tread Lightly! and look forward to giving back to our trails and public lands.”
Along with the initial project, Tread Lightly! and the Overland Expo Foundation will complete an additional three projects near Bend, Oregon, Loveland, Colorado and Arrington, Virginia. Enthusiasts local to these areas may submit project ideas to Tread Lightly! ahead of each event.
