Tread Lightly! Impact Report: Bronco Wild Fund Planting Day and Trail Run

Project: Bronco Wild Fund Planting Day and Trail Run
Location: Arizona

Description: This project was made possible thanks to the Bronco Wild Fund.

On February 1, 2025, volunteers and local partners gathered to plant new trees in the wildfire-damaged areas of the Camp Creek Wash in the Tonto National Forest. Together, 40 volunteers, along with Tread Lightly!, Sanderson Ford and the Tonto Recreation Alliance joined forces to plant 70 young trees.

To protect the young trees, volunteers also placed tree cages and brush along the area. This project fell on the heels of another restoration project in late January where 100 native trees were planted to support the natural watershed and revegetate the area damaged by last summer’s Wildcat fire.

This work helped to reopen areas closed due to fire damage and help educate trail users about the importance of healing watershed areas for the local community.

Thank you to the partners who made this possible:

“I was honored to be contacted by Jen at Bronco Wild Fund asking if myself and Sanderson Ford would be interested in participating in a Bronco Trail Run / Rehabilitation Day so I said yes and called the first person who came to mind, Michelle at Tread Lightly! After organizing a time and location with our friends at TRAL and Tonto National Forest, my wife and I were happy to lend a hand in planting new trees in the Cave Creek area. After years of being Bronco and off-road enthusiasts it felt great to give some of our time back to helping our desert heal and doing a small part in revitalizing areas badly damaged in wildfires. I am already looking forward to the next time I can give back with some of these fantastic organizations and amazing volunteers.”-Daniel Higgins, Sanderson Ford
