Tread Lightly! Impact Report: Silver Creek Cleanup

Project: Silver Creek Cleanup
Location: Arizona

Description: On February 15, 2024, 57 volunteers gathered for a cleanup of Silver Creek Road, an off-road destination located in the Black Mountains near Oatman, the Hualapai Mountains and Grand Canyon. This area is home to both abandoned and functioning gold mines, and is a popular off-road destination in the Kingman area.

The cleanup brought together local volunteers, clubs, Moss Mine employees, as well as the local authority entities like the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, and local environmental enforcement, ERACE (Environmental Rural Area Cleanup Enforcement) Together volunteers cleaned up an impressive 17,740 pounds of trash, improving 14 miles of road. They removed glass, trigger trash, microplastics, as well as illegally dumped equipment abandoned in the area.

Thank you to the partners who made this possible:

“Regarding the Silver Creek Cleanup Project, the event helped with not just the environmental side, it also helped with the wildlife in the immediate area not being subjected to discarded waste, chemicals, and debris not meant for their consumption or their natural living conditions. Overall, I believe this and other cleanup events like this cleanup only benefit our beautiful land and wildlife in assisting with preserving nature to its natural state.”-Capt. Jack Goins, Mohave County E.R.A.C.E.
