Tread Lightly! Impact Report: Trash Can Slam at Badlands Off-Road Park

Project: Trash Can Slam at Badlands Off-Road Park
Project #50/50
State: Indiana

Description: This project was funded by the Quadratec 50 for 50 Initiative. Together with Tread Lightly!, Quadratec has committed to fund a project to improve off-road trails and public lands in each state over 24 months.

On March 30, 2024, 938 volunteers competed in the Trash Can Slam at Badlands Off Road Park to see which off-road club could haul out the most trash. Groups split off to participate in the all-day cleanup, racing for the highest score of most trash collected. In total, volunteers packed out 2,745 pounds of trash from the park.

Thank you to the following partners for their support:

“The cleanup day at the Badlands was a huge success. It was great to witness everyone unite for a common cause. We were inspired by the dedication that we witnessed from the teams as they worked together to remove trash from the park. “- Joanna Sichts, Operations Manager, Badlands Off Road Park

“The trail cleanup day at Badlands was a great success. Volunteers lined up to sign in and get supplies. All types of vehicles were used, side by sides, Jeeps, Broncos, Samari’s, Toyotas. Several Jeep clubs competed to see who could collect the most, with the badlands supplying a small trophy. Entire families participated! The kids really got into it. It was a great event teaching environmental stewardship and trail respect.”- Chip Houmes, Tread Lightly! Member and Volunteer Project Coordinator
