Project: Ocala National Forest National Public Lands Day Clean and Krawl
Location: Florida

Description: On September 27, 2025, a total of 45 volunteers joined forces with 10 U.S. Forest Service (USFS) staff members and representatives from the Ocala National Forest Alliance (ONFA) to conduct a large-scale cleanup and remediation event across multiple sites within Ocala National Forest. The event aimed to restore and protect natural areas that had been impacted by illegal dumping and litter accumulation.

Prior to the event, ONFA and USFS staff identified key cleanup sites using the Ocala National Forest Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM). These areas had been previously documented as illegal dump sites or heavily littered locations. Designated dumpster locations were also mapped to ensure efficient collection and disposal of waste.

Volunteers were divided into four teams, each led by a USFS staff member, to cover separate sections of the forest. Teams were equipped with tools, safety gear, and logistical support to facilitate a safe and effective cleanup operation.

Through the collective efforts of all participants, approximately 11,000 pounds of trash and tires were successfully collected and properly disposed of. The cleanup not only improved the aesthetic and environmental health of the forest but also reinforced community engagement and stewardship for public lands.

Following the cleanup, volunteers enjoyed a grilled hot dog and bratwurst lunch, prepared and served by the Ocala National Forest Alliance volunteer team as a gesture of appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

In addition, the Florida Off-Road Foundation provided funding support, including an extra dumpster to assist the LGBTQ Jeep Group in their cleanup efforts at an additional site within the forest.

Thank you to the partners who made this possible:
