08 Oct read Lightly! Impact Report: Quartz Creek Trail Maintenance
Project: Quartz Creek Trail Maintenance
Location: Alaska
Description: On July 8, 2024, At the request of Bureau of Land Management–Alaska, Tread Lightly supported coordination of 12 miles of trail maintenance on the Quartz Creek Trail to improve OHV user experience.
Thank you to the partners who made this possible:
“In Summer of 2024 the Bureau of Land Management had an agreement with Tread Lightly! to repair and modify over eight miles of OHV trail on Quartz Creek Trail in the White Mountains National Recreation Area, Alaska. Due to the variety of soils and weather, this trail has its fair share of challenges which include permafrost, bogs, multiple creek crossings and winters that leave snow drifts into July. As you can imagine these conditions add up to a large workload for a very small staff managing over 1 million acres. Working with Tread Lightly! and their partners has not only made our trails safer, but also created better access for public recreation and subsistence hunting. We look forward to working with Tread Lightly! for many years to come!”-Garrett Jones, Outdoor Recreation Planner, Bureau of Land Management
