09 May Tread Lightly! announces new Nevada Program Manager
NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah (May 9, 2022)— Tread Lightly!, a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to promoting responsible outdoor recreation through stewardship and educational programs today announced the addition of a new Program Manager in Nevada.
In 2021, members of the Tread Lightly! team relocated to help grow impact in new regions across the country. Tread Lightly! Executive Director, Matt Caldwell, relocated to Arizona and Assistant Director, Danielle McNiven relocated to Wyoming. Also, Tread Lightly! added two new Program Managers to represent the Pacific Northwest and Southeastern regions of the United States. Laura Butcher is the newest member of the Tread Lightly! team to continue this effort across the state of Nevada.
As the Nevada Program Manager, Butcher will create and foster relationships with the land managers that allow for the implementation of Tread Lightly!’s stewardship, education, and outreach programs.
Butcher attended the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, earning a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management. Throughout her career she has spent time as a firefighter/paramedic in many areas of Nevada, including wildland fire experience.
She has served as the CEO of the Valley Off Road Racing Association (VORRA) and has been a longtime racer and volunteer, helping her to grow her knowledge in the areas of land management and local government districts in Nevada. Butcher has competed in the Rebelle Rally twice and participates in other off-road events. In 2019, she and her husband were nominated for an Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF) Impact Award.
“We are thrilled to welcome Laura to the team and expand our efforts to address and improve recreation issues in Nevada,” said Matt Caldwell, Tread Lightly! Executive Director. “Laura’s expertise and knowledge of off-road recreation issues and her familiarity with the Nevada off-road community is extremely valuable and will be pivotal in expanding Tread Lightly!’s impact across the state.”
