Tread Lightly! Impact Report: Cimarron National Grassland Race Track OHV Area Kiosk

Project: Cimarron National Grassland Race Track OHV Area Kiosk
Project #47/50
State: Kansas

Description: This project was funded by the Quadratec 50 for 50 Initiative. Together with Tread Lightly!, Quadratec has committed to fund a project to improve off-road trails and public lands in each state over 24 months.

On June 29, 2024, one volunteer installed an educational kiosk in a new OHV area in the Cimarron National Grasslands, impacting 22 miles of trail.

Thank you to the following partners for their support:

“Improvement to the Race Track OHV area shows commitment to the resource from the Forest Service and collaboration with Tread Lightly! This site is the only designated OHV riding area on the Cimarron National Grassland. It is coveted by locals and visitors alike as it allows access to trails and camping areas on the grassland. Without the support of Tread Lightly with this partnership, the Race Track OHV area would continue to look unwelcoming with a damaged and sun-faded wood kiosk with peeling paint as the Cimarron National Grassland does not have any OHV funding and operates on a small annual recreation budget. The community and visitors will recognize this collaboration for years to come, and it offers visitors valuable information about Tread Lightly! principles and emergency contacts for the area.”- Daniel Balderrama, Recreation Special Use Permit Administrator Pikes Peak Ranger District Pike-San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands
