Tread Lightly! Impact Report: Kiosk and Sign Install at “Edge of the World”

Project: Kiosk and Sign Install at “Edge of the World”
Project Location: Arizona

Description: On December 2, 2024, two volunteers supported work at the “Edge of the World,” also known as East Pocket, in the Coconino National Forest.

With support from AZ Plasma and Forest Service land managers, Tread Lightly! installed an information and map kiosk. This trailhead leads to a breathtaking canyon overlooking Sedona and Oak Creek below.

Due to its heavy use by overlanders, off-roaders, and dispersed campers, the signs were very much needed to inform recreationalists about legal trails, area rules, and responsible recreation education.

Thank you to the following partners for their support:

“We are proud of the great work that Tread Lightly! and the Overland Expo Foundation do for trail conservation and education, especially the recent installation of the map kiosk and signs at the ‘Edge of the World’ in Coconino National Forest. We are so glad to have been a part of it. Projects like this are what the BFGoodrich Outstanding Trails program is all about.”- Andrew Besancon,  BFGoodrich Tires Senior Director of Recreational Brands

”We have collaborated on a number of projects with Tread Lightly! and AZ Plasma over the last few years, primarily informational kiosk and sign design. It has been fun to work with these guys and is always a smooth and professional operation. Thank you to TL! and AZ Plasma for helping in the effort to encourage responsible and sustainable use of public lands.”- Matt Sommer, Volunteer Coordinator Flagstaff Ranger District

“We are so appreciative of the help and support of great Tread Lightly! partners like BFGoodrich Tires and Overland Expo Foundation for helping us create and install valuable educational signage that informs motorized recreation users  how to enjoy our beautiful public lands with respect, helping us Protect the Adventure for generations to come.”-Michelle Ramos, Tread Lightly! Arizona Program Manager

“It is always so encouraging to see an educational kiosk go up in a high traffic use area. The collaboration between several organizations to make a project like this happen shows how supportive the overland community is! Thanks for letting us be a part of it and continue to give back to our public lands.”-Rachel Elseman, Overland Expo Foundation
