21 Nov Tread Lightly! Impact Report: Whitney Reservoir Kiosk Installation Project
Project: Whitney Reservoir Kiosk Installation Project
Location: Utah
Description: This project was funded by Can-Am Off-Road. Can-Am has committed to funding trail stewardship projects in partnership with Tread Lightly! to help maintain and improve access to public lands and off-road trails.
In October 2024, Tread Lightly! worked alongside the Evanston-Mountain View Ranger District on a multi-day project to install five new kiosks that will display maps and responsible recreation messaging to help educate off-roaders on how to travel responsibly and avoid sensitive areas while recreating in this area.
The project began at Whitney Reservoir. With the help of a mini-excavator and hand tools, two new kiosks were installed. This area is very popular and is used heavily for dispersed camping, fishing, hunting and OHV recreation.
The next location was the North Slope Parking Area, a staging area at the forest boundary where users can park and unload their OHVs and OSVs to access the many designated routes in the area throughout the year. Two new kiosks were installed here as well.
The final location was the Lilly Lake dump station, where one new kiosk was installed.
Thank you to the partners who made this possible:
“These large-scale infrastructure projects are so rewarding to me personally. They represent a lasting impact to our public lands and help users educate themselves. This area in particular is near and dear to my heart, and I’ve spent many nights of my life under the stars near Whitney Reservoir. I am proud of the work we have accomplished here this year.”- Kabe Wolf, Tread Lightly! Utah Program Manager
“This was my second large-scale project with Tread Lightly! and it’s impressive to see the impact they have on our public lands. We look forward to our continued partnership and I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together next season.”- Cindy Read, Evanston-Mountain View Ranger District
