31 Jan Ramhorn Campground Hunting Game Pole Construction Project
STATUS: COMPLETE
PROJECT COMPLETION: June 2016
Description from Bureau of Land Management:
On May 31st, 2016 the Eagle Lake field office completed the installation of two game hanging poles at Ramhorn campground. Ramhorn campground is one of many established camping areas in the Eagle Lake field office and is heavily used during the pronghorn and mule deer hunting seasons (August-November). The campground sees approximately 3,300 visitor days per year. The majority of the successful hunters find a nearby tree to skin and clean game.
With the help of the Tread Lightly 25 for 25 initiatives the BLM was able to fund the purchase of the materials to construct two game pole structures. This would not only concentration hunters in one area for cleaning game but also provide an added benefit to one of the largest user groups to the campground, Hunters! Northern California BLM has built 6 of these game poles in various other camp areas and have had nothing but positive feedback from the user groups.
Tread Lightly has awarded funding for 25 stewardship projects throughout the country. The projects will capstone the celebration of Tread Lightly!’s 25 year anniversary. Funding was made possible through a partnership with the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative, Federal Premium Ammunition, Bushnell and the Dallas Safari Club.
Eagle Lake BLM wants to thank Tread Lightly and all its partners for making this project possibly and for giving back to some of its best public land stewards.
