Tread Lightly! announces new Rubicon Soda Springs partnership initiative

NORTH SALT LAKE, UT. (Mar 17, 2022)— Tread Lightly!, a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to promoting responsible outdoor recreation through stewardship and educational programs today announced a new partnership initiative with Rubicon Soda Springs Inc. (RSSI).

Rubicon Springs is a popular overnight destination along the Rubicon River in the geographical center of the iconic Rubicon 4×4 Trail located in the California High Sierra. RSSI has partnered with Tread Lightly! to create educational signage at strategic areas encouraging off-roaders to respect this unique, historic area and ride responsibly on the Rubicon Trail.

“Tread Lightly! is thrilled to collaborate to educate off-roaders on how to not only protect the Rubicon Trail, but Rubicon Springs as well,” said Matt Caldwell, Executive Director of Tread Lightly!. “Thank you to RSSI for proactively teaching visitors how to keep this historic area open for generations to come.”

Rubicon Springs consists of 400 acres of private land inside US Forest Service land and its shareholders are committed to continuous property improvement and sustainability through responsible management.

“Rubicon Springs is a fragile and beautiful place that allows off-road visitors access to one of the most iconic destinations, the Rubicon Trail,” said Josh Hall, RSSI Board Member.  “We’re committed to keeping this area healthy and accessible by educating off-roaders about responsible use through our partnership with Tread Lightly!”

RSSI’s mission is to preserve public access into Rubicon Springs through responsible private property management, cooperative land use agency relationships, and trail user education.

“A big component of our work is to remind off-roaders to treat this area with respect and to do their part to keep it open,” said Pearse Umlauf, RSSI board member. “Incorporating the Tread Lightly! ethic at Rubicon Springs is crucial to keeping this area, and the Rubicon Trail, open and in good condition.”
