Tread Lightly! Impact Report: Lower Soapstone Habitat Protection Project

Project: Lower Soapstone Habitat Protection Project
Location: Utah

Description: This project was funded by Can-Am Off-Road. Can-Am has committed to funding trail stewardship projects in the state of Utah in partnership with Tread Lightly! to help maintain and improve access to public lands and off-road trails.

On July 29, 2023, two volunteers and the Heber-Kamas Ranger District worked to rebuild a buck and rail fence that has stood for many years to protect sensitive habitat in the Lower Soapstone area in the Heber-Kamas National Forest.

The original fence was effective at protecting the meadow but was not allowing proper access to recreationist that want to enjoy the meadow by foot. This project rebuilt the old fence and installed two new access points for people and wildlife to use and enjoy this beautiful mountain habitat more easily.

Thank you to the partners who made this possible:

·         Can-Am Offroad

·         United States Forest Service

“Thank you to our volunteers, Can-Am and the Heber-Kamas Ranger District for making this project happen. Tread Lightly! strives to improve access to public lands and projects like these make that possible.” -Evan Robins, National Stewardship Programs Manager
